At the heart of the Route des Vins d’Alsace
The Route des Vins d’Alsace is the winding road that snakes around the foot of the Vosges Mountains, meandering up and down the side of the slopes and into the ravines of the deep valleys. 170km long the Route des Vins d’Alsace looks just like a postcard: impeccable vineyards, Vosgian forest, ruins of Middle Age Châteaus, towns surrounded by old city walls, little flower-filled streets, welcoming Alsatian winstubs, wine cellars, baroque signs, houses dating from hundreds of years ago, Roman churches and wells left by the Renaissance.
For all these reasons the Route des Vins is worth a visit. From the Porte de Thann (gates of Thann) to those of Marlenheim the wine producers open their cellars to let people taste the wines that made Alsace one of the most indulgent regions in France.
